Tom has over 20 years of experience in Healthcare Planning in Canada and International. Tom’s specific areas of expertise in Healthcare Planning include ambulatory care, operational reviews, bench-marking and re-engineering, facility planning and strategic planning. He managed the contribution of a sizeable group of planning professionals and provided leadership in the development of planning standards and guidelines in healthcare planning. Some of Tom’s accomplishments in Healthcare Planning included development of facility planning solutions for:
Sandwich Community Health centre in Windsor. This provided an opportunity to explore community based health care programming and assess linkages with other providers, such Diabetes, Health Promotion and Midwifery.
A new and unique First Nations healthcare centre in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. This 120 bed Hospital/Long Term Care facility would co-exist with a 100 bed hostel and a 30 bed residential treatment facility to form a health park to provide services to over 28 northern First Nations communities.
An Ambulatory Care at Centenary Health Centre. This assessment was part of a ‘high-level’ analysis of future directions available to this organization as services are restructured across Greater Toronto. Large community hospitals across Ontario, including Centenary Health Centre, Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie and Brantford General Hospital.
Several laboratory services across Manitoba, including Westman Laboratory in Brandon, Cadham Laboratory in Winnipeg and Laboratory services in the new Boundary Trails Hospital.
Tom conducted numerous Board retreats to help community hospital Boards develop appropriate strategies to support good decision-making for the hospital. Communities include Thunder Bay, Chatham, and several hospitals in the greater Toronto area.
